Area teens arrested for aggravated assault

CORDELE — A group of teen was arrested Monday after allegedly attempting to rob three people at gunpoint.
On Monday, January 11, 2016, at approximately 5 am, E911 notified Crisp County Sheriff’s deputies of a security inspection and possible armed robbery after receiving a call about an encounter on Farmers Market Road.
The caller managed to follow the vehicle from Farmer’s Market Road to Pecan Street and 22nd Avenue where Cordele Police Department were able to stop the vehicle. The traffic stop yielded two weapons; an assault rifle and a pellet gun. Deputies transported four suspects from the stop location to the Crisp County Sheriff’s office and Sgt. Ben Bray began his investigation.
After multiple interviews it was determined that 18-year old Cameron Buffington and 19-year old Thomas Souter attempted to rob at gun point 28-year old Michael Newell, 29-year old Garhardt Bittner and 28-year old Ann Clifton all of Cordele, after the parties met for unknown reasons.  Both Buffington and Souter are charged with Aggravated Assault with the intent to rob. Also charged with party to the crime are 18-year old Justin Gloss and 17-year old Brandon Lee. The two were passengers in the vehicle and had prior knowledge of the crime.

On December 24, 2015 Deputy Tony Griffin responded to 402 Lakeshore Drive in regards to a theft. Upon arrival the complainant Charles Robert Cox informed him that he had some medication taken from that residence.

On December 26, 2015 at 2 p.m. Deputy Benjamin Sumner was dispatched to 314 Avery Road in Arabi in reference to an assault. He met with complainant Haley Adkins who said the incident occurred at the suspect’s residence.

On December 28, 2015 at 6:14 p.m. Investigator Karla Stowe met with Randall Jones of Wal-Mart in Cordele in regards to a theft that occurred in that store on December 21, 2015. Michaela Latrice Dennard, age 24, and Deion Sanchez Adams, age 24, both of Rochelle, were charged with theft by shoplifting.

On December 29, 2015 at 12:33 p.m. Deputy Kristan Herrick arrested 25-year old Ronald Douglas Smith of Tavares, Florida. It was reported that Deputy Wade Compton observed Smith, who was driving a 2015 Freightliner truck was operating that vehicle while failing to maintain lane. A traffic stop was initiated and further investigation revealed that Smith was under the influence of a substance, other than alcohol, and was less safe to drive. He was charged with failure to maintain lane and DUI-Driving under the influence of drugs. He was taken to the Crisp County Jail.

On December 29, 2015 at 1:46 p.m. Deputy John Harvey responded to 2215 Roosevelt Street in Cordele in reference to a theft. Upon arrival at the scene he met with complainant Velda Jo Davis.

On December 29, 2015 at approximately 4 p.m Deputy John Harvey was asked to contact Nedra Houser of 108 Lake Park Drive in reference to a stalking complaint. Harvey contacted the complainant by telephone.

On December 29, 2015 at 4:21 p.m. Deputy John Harvey responded to the home of Jimmy McGinnis, 103 David’s Lane in reference to a theft.

On December 29 at 7:40 p.m. Deputy Kenneth Purvis initiated a traffic stop on a red in color Dodge Dakota pickup on 24th Avenue and Old Albany Road. As he approached the vehicle it pulled off. He stopped the truck and made contact with the driver, identified as 39-year old Philip Wayne White of Hazelhurst, GA. Upon making contact with White, Deputy Purvis asked what he was doing to which he responded that he did not know. Purvis reported that while talking with White he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. When asked how much he had to drink, White said “some.” White was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI-Driving under the influence of alcohol, Epired or No registration or title, and possession of open alcohol container.

On December 30, 2015 at approximately 8:47 a.m. Deputy Martelle Davis responded to a residence located at 2104 Hwy 280 West, lot #25 in reference to a criminal trespass report. Complainants Linda Dickerson and Melinda Jackson stated that vehicles had been damaged and that one noticed their tire had been slashed. It was reported that three vehicles were reported to have been damaged; a 2004 Dodge Ram, A 1995 Nissan XE-V6, and a 1999 Chevy Lumina.

On December 31, 2015 at 10 p.m. Deputy Wade Compton was dispatched to 2111 Joe Wright Drive upon arrival at the scene he was met by complainant Willie Lee Lawrence. He informed Deputy Compton that the stray bullets had struck and damaged the roof of his residence.

On December 31, 2015 at around 6 p.m. Sgt Tammera was dispatched to 2106 7th Street South Lot 16 in reference to a criminal trespass. There she met with resident Constance James who informed her that she found a bullet in the living room of the home.

On December 31, 2015 at 5:13 p.m. Deputy Jonathan Cranford responded to 315 11th Avenue East in regards to a harassing communications call. The complainant in that case was Ashley Blake Mosley.

On January 2, 2016 at 11:54 a.m. Deputy Kristan Michael Herrick was dispatched to the residence of Rogelio Alvarez-Guerra, at 273 Allison Road in reference to a theft.

On January 4, 2016 Deputy Devosie Jones was dispatched to 141 Ruby Street in Cordele in reference to a theft. The complainant was 31-year old Jeri Williams.

On January 6, 2016 at approximately 4:25 p.m. Investigator Karla Stowe handled a complaint in regards to Internet crimes. The complainant, Gertrude May Northrop came in the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office to report the crime.

On January 6, 2016 at 4 p.m. Deputy Riley Eason handled a call to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a fraud. The victim, 67-year old David Sharp of 745 Cork Ferry Road, advised that his personal information had been used to open several credit card/debit accounts that are not his. Sharp further informed that a fraud protection company had contacted him earlier that same day, advising him to make a report. Deputy Eason requested that Sharp make sure the accounts were closed and to bring any documentation to the CCSO.

On January 6 at 7:03 a.m. Deputy Sammy Lee John was dispatched to 241 Big Curve Road in regards to a theft. The complainant, 68-year old Sharron Sutton Richardson, informed him that some property was taken from her home. The case was turned over to CID.

On January 7, 2016 Deputy Kristan Herrick stopped at 2000 Dodge Stratus in the 700 block of 24th Avenue West. Upon making contact with the driver, 51-year old Scottie Bernard Anderson of Pitts. Herrick noticed the smell of alcohol. Anderson is charged with a Safety Belt Violation, Driving with a suspended license and Possession of an open alcohol container.

On January 9, 2016 Deputy Devosie Jones was en-route to the CCSO when he was flagged down by Ricky Dawson of 2002 8th Street South Lot 20. Dawson reported a criminal trespass incident to Deputy Jones.
