Last week a win against the Sherwood Academy Eagles sealed the deal for Fullington Academy Trojans to advance to the GICAA State Playoffs.  Will Mashburn took the mound for the Trojans, pitching a complete game.

After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans took the lead in the second.  Sam Evans drew a walk, but would soon trot home due to a RBI from Colin “Spanky” Infante who would then score off of a RBI from Logan Priest.  Austin McKinney followed up with a single, and Lane Mitcham came through with a double RBI single bringing home the remaining base runners.  Russ Taunton then singled to advance Mitcham who would eventually steal his way home making the score 5 to 0.  The score remained the same in the third inning but in the fourth inning the Eagles put three runs on the board.  However, the Trojans came up ready to get their lead back.  An impressive inning by the Trojans would result in RBI’s from Will Mashburn, Ty Tyndal , Maxwell Denney and Lane Mitcham.  In the same inning, runners including Infante who had drawn a walk, were advanced by key sacrifice flies from Sam Evans and Austin McKinney.  After four innings the scoreboard read Trojans 12, Eagles 3.  The Eagles would gain no ground in the fifth inning, and the Trojans scored one more run after a double by Mashburn, a single by Tyndal and an intentional walk for Evans.  The Eagles were preparing for a forced out, but when Infante came back up to bat, a passed ball allowed Mashburn to steal home for the final run that ended the game in a run rule bringing the final score to Trojans 13, Eagles 3.  Mitcham going 3 for 3, and Mashburn pitching a complete game while allowing only 6 hits led the game.  Head Coach Jason Hurst said, “We were able to use the momentum and confidence from the Calvary game, and come out and play really well with our backs against the wall.  I’m proud of this group for responding the way they have.”  Fullington Trojans plan their last home game for Senior Day on Wednesday against Tiftarea, and then they will travel to play the number one seed from the north region, Community Christian, in a best of three series Friday in Stockbridge.  Game Stats:  Taunton 1H; Mashurn 2H, 1RBI; Tyndal 2H, 1RBI; Evans 1SAC; Infante 1H, 1RBI; Denney 1RBI; McKinney 1H, 1RBI 1SAC; Mitcham 3H, 3RBI
