Della Godfrey Booth

A memorial service for Della Godfrey Booth of Columbus will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The service will be conducted by family friend Sheriff Billy Hancock and son David Dotson. The family will meet with friends immediately following the service. Della, 76, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at Savannah Grand Assisted Living of Columbus GA. Born outside of Byromville, she was the daughter of the late Loyl Godfrey and Willie Kate Wilkes Godfrey.  After a successful career as a supervisor in the claims department for AFLAC Insurance Company, Della retired in 1999.   Having won numerous trips while working for AFLAC, she developed a love for travel. During her retirement she fulfilled her desire to travel with trips both abroad and around this great country with her sister in law and partner in “crime” Rubye Griffin.  Della was a lady that always brought light and laughter when she entered a room with her smile and personality.  She was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her niece Melody Godfrey Burke and husband Mickey of Cordele, her son David and wife Lisa Dotson of Minneapolis, MN and daughter Debra and husband Ben Gates of Palm Coast, FL. Other survivors include six nieces and nephews, Thomas R. Godfrey (Rhonda) of Warner Robins, Dianne Godfrey Davis of Macon, Ricky Godfrey (Susan) of Ft. Valley, Tim Godfrey and Rufus Samuel Godfrey Jr., both of Macon, and Joy Griffin of Cordele; sister-in-law Jurelle W. Godfrey of Lilly; and her devoted caregiver and friend, Beverly Clark of Cataula; as well as numerous other great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved and trusted friend of over 25 years, Don Richardson of Columbus;  siblings, Billy O. Godfrey and Rufus Samuel Godfrey and wife Sybil P. Godfrey; and sister-in-law Rubye G. Griffin and  husband Ronnie L. Griffin; and last but certainly not least, her dog, Mr. Murphy who brought much joy and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
