64th ANNUAL WATERMELON Festival officially starts Watermelon Days have begun, and the official ribbon cutting was held Friday, kicking off events that will continue through the month. Richard Grogg, chairman Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce welcomed guests to the ribbon cutting. Following an invocation by Alton Churchwell, remarks were offered by Cordele Commission Chairman Zack Wade and Crisp County Commission Chairman James Nance who read the county proclamation for the festival. Festival committee Chairman Arlene Holmes spoke, and she, along with “This is Your Life” honoree John Woodard cut the ribbon. Also this weekend the Billy Williams Memorial Fishing Rodeo was held Saturday morning, and the annual pageant was scheduled for Saturday night.
