CORDELE — A Cordele man was arrested early Wednesday morning on a number of charges after launching a three-hour tirade against virtually every Cordele Police Department officer on duty.

Jimmy Lee Haynes, age 33, of a Joe Wright Drive address, was arrested on five felony counts of making terroristic threats and one misdemeanor charge of public intoxication.

According to an incident report filed by Officer Erica Cromer, Haynes was recorded on the CPD’s audio system making a variety of wild threats, including killing two officers in two different ways and blowing up City Hall.

Haynes’ bad night began shortly after midnight at a residence on West Fifth Avenue where officers initially responded to a complaint about a trespasser.

Cromer and another CPD officer approached the residence on foot and noticed Haynes get out of a vehicle and walk toward the house. Cromer’s report said the officers “advised the suspect several times to stop. The suspect kept walking away...”

Cromer handcuffed Haynes after she and the other officer were able to get Haynes to comply with their requests.

That’s when the tirade began.

According to Cromer’s report, “(Haynes) began to curse and yell at me, Sgt. Montgomery, and Officer Sales. (Haynes) was so loud he woke up the neighbors...I could smell a very strong odor of alcohol coming from Mr. Haynes’ breath and person. Mr. Haynes appeared intoxicated and there was a beer can lying next to his vehicle.”

But that was just the beginning.

“While at the Police Department, (Haynes) advised Sgt. Montgomery that he was going to snap his neck. He also advised Montgomery that he was going to break his jaw in three places. He further commented that if he saw Sgt. Montgomery on the streets that he would kill him,” Cromer wrote in her report.

“(Haynes) also stated that if he had a 9mm that he would shoot and kill Sgt. C. Lull. He then stated that he would beat Officer Sales if he could get to him and fight him one on one. (Haynes) repeatedly stated to Lt. New that he wanted five minutes alone with Sgt. Montgomery in the cell with him,” Cromer’s report continued.

Haynes then reportedly got really nasty.
