CORDELE — Spotlight Theatres here held a special Easter event in which more than $300 was raised for a local school.
As a partner in education, the theatre sold $1 tickets for a chance to win a huge gift basket filled with candy, movie tickets and posters. Spotlight owner Lori Bryan said over the last few weeks, more than 300 tickets were sold and all proceeds were given to O’Neal Pre-K.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, students from O’Neal were treated to a screening of the new Dr. Seuss movie, “Horton Hears a Who,” at the theater. Local businesses Flint River Pottery and RTT Associates partnered with Spotlight to provide free drinks for every student and chaperone who attended the shows.
“We’re trying to promote education, as well as keeping business local,” said Bryan. “Thanks to these businesses who helped make these two days possible. The children and the adults really enjoyed the movie.”
On Wednesday, the winning ticket was drawn and Chase Hester, who happens to be a student at O’Neal, picked up his prize after school let out Wednesday afternoon. Chase is the son of Andy and Tia Hester of Arabi and is in Anna Hauesler’s class at O’Neal.
