Unadilla council accepts bid for new lift station

UNADILLA — City councilmen here accepted a low bid from Boyd Brothers Construction for the addition of a new lift station at Dooly State Prison, a medium security prison which currently houses prisoners who may not be suitable for a county institution due to their offense or physical limitations.
City administrator Ronnie Brand told councilmen during the regular meeting of the Unadilla City Council he received the bid recently. Councilman Greg Speight made a motion to accept the engineer’s recommendation and the motion was seconded by Councilman Dexter Whitaker. It carried unanimously.
Ronnie Brand also brought to the council’s attention several requests from citizens to return electrical service to Harmon Park and Tybee Park. After some discussion, councilmen decided to allow Taylor Electrical to install electrical service back to the two parks. Councilmen Tony Lester and Dexter Whitaker were the first to agree to the recommendation.
The clerk made a advisement before the council to hire Paula Burns for the position of assistant city clerk, and the council agreed.
Police Chief Ernest Dennard also made a request before councilmen to advertise for two full-time employees, which they approved.
In other news:
• Ronnie Brand stated that the 2007 audit report should be ready by the end of March.
• Kay Hagler addressed the council concerning the Community Development Block application and have selected two localities with sewer problems, the Parker area and Peavy Street area, which need improvement.
The next meeting of the Unadilla City Council will be on April 8. They are open to the public.
