CORDELE — A local man was arrested Tuesday night after pulling a box cutter on police officers who were attempting to place him under arrest.
Reginald Benard Crapp, 34, of 609 S. 11th St. was charged with one count each of terroristic threats and aggravated assault on a peace officer.
The incident began just before 8 p.m. Tuesday when Cordele Police Pvt. Bruce Gourley received word from the front desk clerk at the police department that she had just received a telephone call from a subject threatening to “blow the police department up if he did not get his gun back.”
A few minutes later, dispatchers from Crisp County E-911 advised that they had received a similar phone call from an unknown subject. Officials at the police department said Crapp claimed that his gun was confiscated by officers in 2004, however the police department has no record of ever taking a weapon from Crapp.
After further investigation, police located Crapp and took him to the police department for more questioning. During the interview, Crapp admitted to officers that he did make the calls to the police department and 911.
When officers asked him about his conversation with the front desk clerk at the police department, Crapp responded by saying, “that’s my secret” and refused to talk anymore.
He was escorted to the holding cell at the police department to await transport to the Crisp County Detention Center. As officers were attempting to pat him down and place him under arrest, Crapp reportedly told them, “ya’ll ain’t gonna arrest me” and pulled a box cutter from his pocket. He extended the blade and took a defensive position against the wall.
Haas and Gourley immediately drew their Tasers and ordered the suspect to drop the weapon. Crapp complied and dropped the box cutter on the ground.
Officers retrieved the weapon and proceeded to place Crapp in the holding cell. He was processed and later taken to the county jail.
