CORDELE — Crisp County senior, Weston Summers, 18, graduated with honors from Middle Georgia College last Friday evening. He will receive his high school diploma next Friday.
As one of only a select few who completed the G.A.A.M.E.S. dual enrollment program (Georgia Academy of Aviation, Mathematics, Engineering, & Science), Summers also received a certificate and pin.
Geared toward motivated students interested in jump-starting their college studies, G.A.A.M.E.S. is a residence program at the college in Cochran.
It was initiated by Georgia Tech in 1997 as a means of advancing high school students into their engineering studies. The program has expanded to include all fields of study (including the recent addition of aviation). Summers participated in both his junior and senior years of school, while also meeting the requirements for high school graduation.
Summers received his associate degree in Business and will transfer to the University of Georgia’s Terry School of Business as a junior in the fall, having completed 76 college hours.
He is the son of Carden and Janis Summers of Cordele, and the grandson of Sarah and the late Oscar Summers of Cordele, and Clint and Norma Hawkins of Gainesville.
