CORDELE — A Cordele man faces multiple charges after attempting to elude sheriff’s deputies Thursday afternoon.
Wilbur Little, 31, of a 15th Ave. W. address has been charged with attempting to elude, flight to avoid prosecution, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of both illegal drugs within 1000 feet of a school.
He also is charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and possession of dangerous drugs including marijuana and cocaine.
Col. Billy Hancock with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Department said the Mid South Narcotics Task Force received a report Thursday that illegal drugs were being transported in a 1991 Cadillac operated by Little.
Task Force officers watched the vehicle for a period of time, then requested that sheriff’s deputies stop the driver, Hancock said.
When the traffic stop was attempted, the suspect “sped off failing to stop for blue lights and a siren,” according to Hancock’s report.
Little allegedly traveled numerous city streets before he jumped from the moving vehicle in the area of First St. and Oak Ave. and fled on foot.
A brief chase ensued with sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Cordele Police Department taking the suspect into custody without incident behind a residence on Second Ave.
Hancock said he was transported to the Crisp County Detention Center.
