Dooly commission awaiting numbers

VIENNA — Budget worksheets have been received from all but two department heads here as county officials begin to prepare the budget for the coming fiscal year.
Dooly County commissioners discussed the scheduling of budget work sessions at its regular meeting Thursday. Some sessions will be scheduled for the next meeting set for July 10. At that time others will be scheduled for a later date.
The county received a funding request from the Cordele Judicial Circuit’s public defender’s office. The amount asked for from Dooly County is $19,185.63 for the fiscal year.
Other items on the agenda included:
• The Vienna Historic Preservation Society invited the Crisp County Commissioners to attend the grand opening celebrating the premiere of the Smithsonian Exhibition “Key Ingredients: America By Food” at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 27 at the Southwest Georgia Business Development Center.
• The Georgia Department of Transportation prepared a “Request for Traffic Signal” for consideration by the commissioners. The proposed location for the light would be on State Route 7 at the Dooly County Elementary/Middle School. The commission decided to get estimates on the cost to the school board for installation and electricity.
• Unadilla City Administrator Ronnie Brand reported that the mayor and city council have voted to offer land to the county for an EMS station next to the Fire Department Training Facility.
• A motion was passed in reference to an eminent domain issue involving land on a dirt road scheduled to be paved soon.
The next meeting of the Dooly County Commission will be held July 10 at 9 a.m. at the Dooly County Economic Development Training Center.
