Clarification

A story in Friday’s Dispatch about the closing of the Hatley precinct contained some erroneous information. We apologize and hope to clarify the situation today.

Registered voters who live north of Hatley Rd. and have previously voted in the Hatley precinct will now go to Listonia to cast their ballots. Those who live south of Hatley Rd. will go to Arabi.

Because the Hatley precinct was so small, the Crisp County Board of Elections and Registration sought pre-clearance from the U. S. Justice Department to consolidate it with other precincts. Since it was a local choice, the state did not have to step in.

Now that Hatley voters will be going to Listonia or Arabi, those two precincts as well as Coney and Jamestown all have 800-900 voters in them, according to information provided by Elections Supervisor Brenda Turner.
