Traffic stops net six arrests

CORDELE – Six persons face various charges as a result of a license check by the Middle Georgia Traffic Enforcement Network here last Friday night.

Robert Jermanie Martin Jr. of Ashburn was charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce after he was stopped at the intersection of 6th Ave. and 15th St. about 9 p.m. A K-9 dog hit on the car he was driving, and officers found a plastic bag containing a green leaf substance which was suspected marijuana.

Calvocie Armstrong of a Cordele address was cited for contempt of court, and Kareem Shabazz Butler, also of Cordele, for a window glazing violation.

The men were traveling together in a black and silver Lincoln Towncar when the K-9 unit hit on it. During a search, suspected drugs were found on the ground next to the passenger’s side door. The men, however, denied having the narcotics.

The vehicle was impounded, but officers did not think they had sufficient cause to charge the men with possession of the drugs.

Gary Taylor of Vienna was charged with driving on a suspended license. He was stopped for a license check at the intersection of Hwy. 41 and Maple Ave.

Two Cordele teens, 19 year old Jessica Runels and 17 year old Allicia Bennett were charged with possession of alcohol by a person under age 21.

When the vehicle in which they were passengers was stopped, officers discovered that the two young ladies were sharing an alcoholic drink.

At police headquarters, they were released to their parents.
