Wreck sends two to hospital

BY BECKY CRISSMAN

ARABI — A wreck here last week sent two Turner County women to the hospital.

Crisp County EMS and troopers with the Georgia State Patrol Post 30 responded to the accident at the intersection of Hwy 41 and 5th Street.

Gary Lee Harris, 54 of Ashburn reportedly was traveling north on Hwy 41 pulling a trailer of produce. As he came around the curve up to 5th Street, he said he noticed two vehicles stopped in the road, one preparing to turn left on 5th Street.

Realizing he did not have sufficient time to stop his truck, he steered left to go around the vehicles. His trailer of produce was struck by a ‘99 Chevy Cavalier, traveling southbound on Hwy 41.

The driver of the Cavalier was 42 year old Derenne Hilmon, also of Ashburn. Hilmon and her passenger, 52-year old Patricia Chatfield were both transported to Crisp Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Harris apparently had no injuries.
