Police probe street robbery, burglary cases

CORDELE — One Cordele man said he lost $150 in a street robbery and another said a burglar stole his television set in incidents Cordele Police Department officers were asked to investigate last Thursday.

The robbery victim aid he was walking on Ninth Ave. E. under the Fifth Street overpas at about 10 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck on the back of the head and knocked out for about eight hours.

He informed Cpl. Christina Martinez of the incident shortly after 6:30 a.m. Thursday and later went to the emergency room for treatment. In addition to taking his money, the culprit threw his backpack into nearby bushes.

The burglary, meanwhile, was reported by a resident of the 1400 block of S. Pecan St. No value was listed for the 32-inch flat screen TV said to have been removed from that home.

In other Thursday activity, officers:

— Investigated three theft reports.

Among them were $202 taken from a home in the 100 block of N. Bass St., $20 removed from a home in the 300 block of 14th Ave, W. where a juvenile was charged with that offense and an assorted of food items removed from a freezer in the 500 block of 17th Ave. W.

— Charged a 14-year-old youth for disorderly conduct and unruly juvenile after he became disrespectufl to his mother and grandmother.

— Cited Richard Jeffery “Skeeter” Peacock with indecent conduct after he was reportedly seen urinating in public.

— Received a vandalism complaint from a Fourth Ave. E. resident who said someone had tampered with her mailbox and had scattered a portion of its contents in her yard.

— Found an unresponsive local man lying on the ground bleeding and a group of about 20-30 persons gathered around him in the area of 23rd Ave. W. and Joe Wright Dr.

After being transported to the emergency room for treatment, the victim later came to the police station and said he had been attacked by a male subject he knew by his first name only. After falling to the ground, he was reportedly kicked several times. A shoe and $5 were taken from him.

— Arrested Timothy Ellis Cobb, 19, of 1609 Pine Acres Dr., for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana upon investigating a suspicious vehicle parked at tthe 19th Ave. E. park.
