CORDELE — While searching for suspects wanted for questioning about shots fired into the air Sunday, Cordele Police Department officers arrested Monday a man who had an outstanding child support warrant against him.

Lt. Louis New identified the subject found in an apartment in the 600 block of 23rd Ave. W. and subsequently cited for apprehension of a wanted person as Willie Kentavious Tolbert, 24, of 507 Fourth Ave. W.

During questioning, he allegedly gave officers a fictitious name and several different dates of birth leading to an additional charge of giving false information to law enforcement officers.

Meanwhile, the search for the alleged shooters continues.

In other activity, officers:

— Investigated a forgery case in which eight personal checks totaling almost $2,000 had been passed at Wal-Mart and Planters First on the account of a Cobb couple that had allowed the offender to stay with them.

While investigating that complaint, Sgt. Charles Dennard learned the offender was at Belk’s trying to pass a $282.69 forged check on an account the victim had at Region’s Bank.

Before officers could arrive at that department store, though, the suspect left the check behind and departed the scene in a black SUV. The case remains under investigation.

— Received a fraud complaint from a Bailey’s Satellite employee who told Cpl. Christina Martinez someone had used her bank debit card to make a $586 purchase at Verizon Wireless.

The victim said she didn’t have an account with that company and didn’t know who might have her debit card number to make such a transaction. Both the bank and Verizon have been alerted of the incident.
