Flint could peak above flood stage

CORDELE — Crisp County Power General Manager Steve Rentfrow has notified the Dispatch that the Flint River is expected to peak at least a foot above flood stage in Montezuma Saturday.

Rentfrow says flood stage is 20 feet, and because of considerable rainfall (3-5 inches) this week between Macon and Atlanta, flows on the Flint are increasing. “The current forecast is for the river at Montezuma to peak above 21 feet on Saturday. To better manage the flows we have begun lowering the lake. The plan is to have it down 2-3 feet by the weekend.

“We have also been coordinating our actions with GA Power in Albany and the National Weather Service,” Rentfrow added. ”We do not foresee any problems on the main area of the lake, however there may be some minor problems in the Turkey Creek – Drayton area.”

Rentfrow says he will keep the newspaper informed if the situation changes.
