CORDELE — Felony theft by conversion charges have been filed against a Tifton truck driver who after picking up a load of chicken from Tyson Foods in Vienna failed to deliver it to its scheduled destination in Rincon.
Officials with L&A Trucking in Ty Ty informed Cordele Police Department Sgt. Carrie Lull of the incident late Friday afternoon. She also said a company check was cashed for $75 at Pilot Travel Center where only $5 worth of fuel was purchased.
After Col. Lewis Green located the missing vehicle in the 300 block of 15th St. S. with the seal on the trailer doors broken and the cab locked, police notified the trucking company of the vehicle’s location.
Company president Andy Harrell immediately came here, opened the trailer and showed Lull where six pallets of chicken had been broken down and the contents of them had been taken. Total property loss was estimated at $3,000.
Brown later returned to the scene where he was taken into custody by Sgt. Jeremy Taylor.
In other weekend activity, officers:
— Filed an assortment of charges against Ellis Major Jr., 19, of 404-B Ninth Ave. W., after being dispatched Sunday afternoon to investigate a possible disturbance at 609-F 23rd Ave. W.
Police were called to that location when Major went to the home of his ex-girlfriend to visit a child the two share and then told the mother he was going to leave with the child.
The woman’s current boyfriend told the offender that would not be the case and that he should heed the mother’s request to leave the home. During an ensuing scuffle that broke out between the two men, police were called.
At about the time officers arrived on the scene, Major jumped out a window but was caught and arrested almost immediately. Before being jailed, he was taken to Crisp Regional Hospital to receive stitches for cuts he apparently suffered when he went out the window.
Major is charged with burglary (no forced entrance), aggravated assault, kidnapping (minor), cruelty to children (third degree), criminal trespass, possession of a weapon in the commission of a crime and interference with government.
— Probed four vandalism complaints.
A resident of the 1300 block of Drayton Rd. told Ptl. Forsythe vandals broke a window in the south side of her residence.
