From STAFF REPORTS

ATLANTA — During its annual conference here last week, the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) presented awards to Phil Streetman of WSST-TV and to the Crisp County Board of Education.

Streetman received the Beacon Award, a GSBA-sponsored award program that recognizes journalists for their support of school systems in their viewing areas.

He was one of three winners named in the electronic media category after being nominated by the Crisp County Board of Education earlier this fall. Accompanying Streetman as he received his award were his wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Leeza.

The Crisp County Board of Education was also recognized by GSBA as a “Board of Distinction.” Crisp was one of 14 school boards receiving the award in recognition of being in full compliance with all of GSBA’s standards, having adopted a continuous improvement operational model, and having linked system goals to the board’s self evaluation and the evaluation of the superintendent.

Accepting the award were chairman Erskine Weaver, superintendent Judy Bean and board members Lydia Adkins and Troy Pullin.

Streetman’s Beacon Award is on display in the administrative offices of WSST-TV. The Board of Distinction Award is on display in the administrative offices of the Crisp County Board of Education.
