Kiwanis Club Talent Show

Cordele — Talent was “bustin’ out all over” as the Cordele Kiwanis Club presented its annual Talent/Art Showcase event Friday night. 

Many talented young people displayed their musical and artistic abilities during the evening, and some of them won scholarships for their efforts.

Angel Valdes received a $500 scholarship for his entry in the art division. Second place went to Kelsey Herzog who took  home a $250 scholarship. 

Martin Mathis was the first place winner in the senior talent division which also awards a scholarship. His original composition ‘Country Through and Through’ was chosen as the best act in his age group (grades 10-12).

Second place among the older youth was a tie between Destan Musgrove and Samantha Sutherland.

In the division that includes grades 7-9, Tempest Holmes took first place with her vocal rendition of ‘Listen.’ Nichole Winter took second place and Caroline Harpe, third.

Top performer in grades 4-6 was Hannah French who sang ‘Good Morning Baltimore.’ Second place went to Mary Madeline Carden, and third to the duo of Olivia Folds and William Purvis.

Christian and Brandon Elliot took first place among performers in kindergarten through third grade with their rendition of ‘Baby.’ Gracie Chadwick finished in second place and Jordan Lawson in third.

Also participating in the annual event were Courtney Blackwood, Kaydee Kitchens, Alex Hobbs and James Ramsey in grades 10-12; BreeAnna Malone, Justin Gloss, Cody Swint and Elizabeth Jones, Shelby Hughes and Holly Hunt and Ila Mitchell in grades 7-9;

Jordan Wilkerson, Kiara Peavy, Brianna Stewart and Shayla Covin, Carley Yawn, Jessica Morgan, Catherine Spencer van Asendelft, and Ijon Owens in grades 4-6.

All of these singers, musicians, dancers and artists kept the audience’s attention with their amazing skills and abilities.  Their facial expressions were evidence of the love they have for what they were doing on stage. 

From this reporter’s point of view, everyone who participated is to be commended for their wonderful performance and the development of their God given gifts.

Judges for the evening were Brinson Brock, Tiffany Howard and Andy Martin. Macy Young served as the art coordinator and Stephen Partin served as the music coordinator.

Members of the Kiwanis Club talent show committee  members include Michael Fraser, Ed Vaughn, Lori Jobe, Karen Merritt and Julie Rogers.
