Three arrested in homicide

Cordele — A little more than two weeks after the fatal shooting of a woman in Sunset Homes, three suspects including one juvenile are being charged with her murder.

Detective Ketorie Sales of the Cordele Police Department addressed media during a press conference held outside city hall Monday afternoon.

“We were in search of two persons that were seen in a surveillance video in the vicinity of where the homicide occurred,” he said. “Last week, we received an anonymous call identifying one of them in that video and  brought him in for questioning.

“Based on information we received, we were able to secure a search warrant which led to the location of all three suspects. They were arrested Sunday night.”

The trio includes Vacorey Deontie Yowe and Jacorey Jackson, both age 18, and with a juvenile whose name and likeness has yet to be released.

Each faces charges of armed robbery, possession of firearms during the commission of a felony and murder. The charges stem from the November 11 shooting death of 39-year-old Cynthia Curtis.

Sales confirmed the three suspects lived within walking distance of the crime scene. It is believed they may have known Curtis who operated a snack store out of her home and was well known in the area.

“It is our belief that robbery was the motive,” he said. “Upon entering the home, they realized she may have been  armed and then shot her.”
