Last week's high speed chase suspect charged in Bibb County burglary spree

Cordele — Initially issued 11 traffic citations as the result of a high-speed, five-county chase involving Crisp and Dooly lawmen, a 26-year-old man has now been charged with multiple crimes in Macon.

Police in that city have charged Aaron West Joiner with 12 counts of burglary, six counts of entering an automobile, two counts of theft by taking an automobile and one count of criminal attempt to commit theft.

Joiner became a suspect in those crimes when Macon officers found his driver’s license in a pickup truck they spotted on a Spring Street bridge after receiving a report it had been stolen.

After coming to a stop, Joiner escaped arrest by jumping off the bridge. A detailed check of the pickup he had been driving led to the recovery of debit cards, purses and various identification forms that had been reported stolen in a previous burglary spree.

Later that day, officers were called to investigate the theft of a 2013 Lexus taken after a man entered the residence of the vehicle owner and took the keys to the car and a briefcase.

Police later spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it but were unable to do so as the driver sped away.

Troopers later spotted the vehicle traveling south on Interstate 75 in Houston County and gave pursuit to it. Officers from other agencies also became involved in the ensuing chase where speeds exceeded 100 mph.

Spike sticks were employed more than once as the pursuit continued into Crisp and Worth counties.

It eventually ended after Joiner drove into a pecan grove in Worth County, exited that area and began traveling north on Ga. Hwy. 33 until tires flattened on the vehicle by the stop spikes forced him to stop.

Joiner, whom a Dooly County had earlier seen smoking what later was determined to be methamphetamine, then jumped from the vehicle and fled into a wooded area where he was soon taken into custody.

Additional charges may be filed against Joiner, who also is accused of stealing a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that has been recovered and returned to its owner, is being held at the Houston County jail.

Troopers, meanwhile, have cited Joiner for 11 traffic citations four of which involved felony offenses.
