Dooly EMS opens new station

Vienna — After years of planning and work, Dooly County EMS finally moved into their new facility on Union Street here. Local officials and citizens were given the opportunity to tour the new location during an open house Thursday morning.

“We are very proud of the new facility,” said Dooly EMS Director Don Williford.  “We were formerly housed in a 1991 double-wide trailer behind the old Dooly Medical Center building. It was old and in some disrepair. For the past several years we have been actively seeking a new location, and it has paid off for us today with the opening of this new building.”

Paid for with funds from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, the facility was moved to an existing building in Vienna which not only saved on cost but also revitalized an older, empty building already owned by the county, making it useful again. Williford said the county’s maintenance department had a major part in the construction work, which was also a money-saver for the project.

“The new facility has almost 4,000 sq. ft. of office and living space and includes a classroom that will be used for in-house training,” said Williford. “In the future we also hope to host regional classes for EMS training here.”

Williford said the new location places the EMS closer to some of outlying areas of the county such as Lilly, Drayton, and Byromville which will help response time.
