Wrecks slow weekend traffic

Dooly — A series of vehicle accidents Friday evening slowed southbound traffic on I-75 causing it to back up for miles across the county.

Georgia State Patrol Post 30 responded to each separate incident, the first call coming in at 4:45 p.m.

According to reports, a 2012 Nissan Rogue driven byChristina Martin, 28, of Warner Robins, was traveling in the left lane of southbound traffic on I-75.

As Martin slowed her vehicle, it was struck in the rear by an unknown vehicle which afterwards left the scene. Martin attempted to follow the vehicle but was advised by law enforcement to exit the interstate and wait for a report to be filed. She later described the vehicle that struck her as a Chrysler 300.

The second incident was reported at 5 p.m. and involved three vehicles.

Christopher Wildermuth, 21, of Orange Park, Fla., who was driving  a 1999 Toyota Corrola, informed troopers that he was traveling southbound on I-75 in the left lane of traffic.

Wildermuth said he was traveling behind an unknown truck that suddenly slowed. He said he was unable to slow in time and struck the truck in the rear.

A  2006 Ford Expedition driven by Annetta Adkins, 45, of Tallahassee, Fla., was unable to slow down in time to avoid striking Wildermuth’s vehicle in the rear.

A 2013 Toyota Highlander driven by Glenn Cunningham, 75, of Winamac, Ind., then struck Adkins’ vehicle in the rear because he was unable to slow down.

The unknown truck that initially started the chain reaction left the scene and Wildermuth was unable to give a description or the tag number of the vehicle. Neither the drivers nor the passengers in the vehicles suffered a serious injury.

The traffic already slowed due to the first two incidents and the narrowed lanes of traffic due to construction were contributing factors to a third accident which occurred at 5:43 p.m.

A 2014 Buick Enclave driven by Daniel Stuckart, 42, of Powder Springs. was stopped in the left lane of the southbound traffic when a semi truck tried to pass in the right lane.

That rig driven by Johnnie Bertholf, 46 of Greenville, Tex., drifted into the left lane where it struck Stuckart’s car on the passenger side mirror. Reports indicated the truck’s load was oversized which caused the failure to maintain lane.

There were no serious injuries involved in any of the incidents to which Dooly County EMS also responded.
