Kiwanis Talent Show

Cordele — CORDELE — Some of the areas most talented young people took the stage at the Crisp County Middle School auditorium Friday night to compete in the 2012 Kiwanis Talent and Art Showcase.

David Simmons, secretary of the Kiwanis Club board of directors served as emcee for the event, introducing each act as they treated to the crowd to a variety of performances ranging from pop to country competing in one of four classes. Trophies were awarded to the top three performer in each category.

In the class A category, grades Kindergarten to 3rd grade, there were only two competitors. Brandon Elliot took top prize for his song and dance routine to the popular Justin Bieber song, Never Say Never and Kaitlin Clark received second for her performance of the Star Spangled Banner.

In Class B category(grades 4-6) first place went to Christian Elliott who performed the popular Temptations song My Girl. Second place was awarded to Carley Yawn who sang the song Mr. Big Stuff. Jessica Morgan, received third place for her rendition Toworrow from the musical Annie.

Class C category(grades 7-9) winners were; Caroline Harpe, performed a monolgue and song entitled Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins. Second place went to Hannah French for her performance of the song One And Only by Adele. Madilynn Heath, who performed Unchained Melody, received third place in the category.

Top performers in Class D (10-12 grades) were; In first place, Austin French, who played guitar as he performed the song Say by John Mayer. Taking second place was Shelby Hughes who performed the song Perfect Relationship and in third  place was Allison Guthrie who sang I Need You by LeAnn Rimes.

Also recognized at the event were winners in the art showcase, which were displayed in the lobby to the auditorium on Friday night. Amee Mehta received first place for her colored pencil drawing entry. Second place went to Anna Olsen for her weaving fiber arts and third place went to Ashley Persall for her assemblage art entry.
