CORDELE — Local vendors are invited to participate in the “100 Mile Peanut Pickin’ Regional Yard Sale” which is set for Saturday, Oct. 8 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
The route will follow Highway 33 from Cordele through Sylvester and loop through downtown Moultrie. Then it will follow 133 through Berlin, Morven and Quitman.
Vendors can set up at any of five locations in Crisp County and Cordele including Wenona Baptist Church at 261 Hwy. 33 S.; Fraser Auto Repair, 1204 S. 7th St.; SAM Shortline Excursion Train, 105 E. 9th Ave.; Crisp Regional Hospital, 902 N. 7th St. and the Crisp County Recreation Dept., 1205 N. 5th St.
They must, however, register and get approval to set up at the place of their choice.
“The 100 Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale is a tourism effort to promote our region and an opportunity to showcase our town to visitors who may purchase a home or start a business,” says Monica Mitchell, Cordele Main Street director.
Vendors will be featuring everything from antiques, to local Georgia grown/Georgia made items and yard sale items.
Yard sale sites will range from large multi-organization sites to individual sites along the route. “Official Vendor” signs will identify each official 100 Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale site.
Participating vendors will include a variety of sidewalk sales at downtown businesses as well as traditional yard sale wares from handmade crafts, old and new items, and antiques.
All vendors are urged to keep in mind that this is a sale of antiques and oddities. They are discouraged from selling used clothing because it is most often passed over.
“This is your opportunity to shop until you drop, and a great way to find unique gifts or decorative items for your home,” according to Mitchell.
The bargain shopping is the main attraction, but visitors also will be able to enjoy exploring charming towns and communities, the scenic countryside, famous historic sites, delicious regional cuisine and welcoming Southern hospitality.
Mitchell says, “This is a great opportunity to promote Cordele-Crisp County to the bargain hunters that will be visiting our area.
“We are looking for church groups, clubs and individuals who would like to participate in the 1st Annual 100 Mile Peanut Pickin’ Yard Sale.
“To be included in this exciting event, please contact the Cordele-Crisp County Chamber of Commerce at (229) 273-1668 or Cordele Main Street at (229)-276-2902,” Mitchell adds.
Spaces will be rented on a first-come, first-serve basis at $30 each. The event will take place, rain or shine, and there will be no refunds.
Vendors should set up their booths after 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 or between 6 and 7:30 a.m. Saturday. They are responsible for all their property as no guards or law enforcement personnel will be on duty at any of the five locations in Crisp County.
