Homeless man faces multiple charges filed by Cordele police

Cordele — An early Sunday morning disturbance that began at  a local club subsequently led to multiple charges being filed against a 50-year-old man the Cordele Police Department lists as homeless.

Information provided news media members on Monday identified the alleged offender as Charles Anthony McGruder who was taken into custody about 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the Sunset Homes parking lot.

Officers responding to the disturbance call said McGruder and his passenger led them on a short chase. When their vehicle stopped, the passenger immediately fled the area on foot.

McGruder was taken into custody on an assortment of charges. The second subject involved in the case is still being sought.

  • Temporary water cut-off beginning Friday

    The City of Cordele Water Department will have water turned off in the area of 16th Ave., east of I-75 and Midway Road, north of US Hwy. 280, including the Industrial Park and surrounding areas. The water will be turned off beginning Friday, April 25, at midnight (12:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26) in order to repair a water leak at the fire hydrant located on Midway Rd. at U. S. Hwy. 280.  The water will remain off until repairs are complete (approximately 2 hours).

    CORDELE — Serious charges have been filed against two men arrested by Crisp County Sheriff’s Office deputies in separate incidents this past Tuesday.
    The subjects have been identified as Alvin Frankie Woods, 19, who was taken into custody at a local residence, and Christopher Inman, 27, of Kenosha, Wis., who was arrested after exiting I-75 at 16th Avenue.
