Crisp County Retired Educator’s Association gathers for monthly meeting

Cordele — The Crisp County Retired Educator’s Association met on this past Thursday at the Golden Corral Restuarant for their monthly meeting.

Organization president Charles Kerr opened the meeting and introduced special guest Keith Lee, Area II director of the Georgia Retired Educator’s Association.

Lee gave a presentation about increasing the membership in GREA, informed members about the state GREA meeting and answered any questions regarding changes in health insurance.

Lee said statewide the GREA is almost 24,000 strong — a number that is both good and bad. Although it is a considered to be a large number, Lee informed members there are slightly over 100,000 retired educators in Georgia.

Concern was expressed why all educational retirees are not members of GREA when there are so many membership benefits.

“In numbers, we are strength,” Lee said before encouraging members to find educators who are retiring soon and to give them membership cards. He also encouraged current and prospective members to become involved with GREA on the state level.

Recently, there have been changes made in the health insurance and many members were not satisfied with these changes.

In regards to questions, Lee advised members to contact their state representatives. Members can take advantage of this time to express their concerns.

Representatives from the Crisp County Retired Educator’s Association also plan to attend the state GREA Meeting in Savannah on April 21. Other members were also encouraged to attend.
