Traffic stops leads to multiple charges against local man

Cordele — CORDELE — Local police have figuratively “thrown the book” at a 31-year-old man who tried to elude an officer attempting to stop him in the pre-dawn hours Saturday for a traffic violation.

Officer Carl Cobb said he was on routine patrol when just after 2 a.m. he observed brake lights were not working on a Cadillac Seville subsequently found to be driven by Adrian Johnson of 1105 Camelia Drive.

The vehicle stopped at a 16th Ave. E. convenience store but as the officer approached the car it sped away. Cobb said the vehicle cut through the parking lot of another convenience food store, traveled across Owens St. and came to a stop when it struck a tree stump.

At that point, the driver excited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

For more details about that case and others recently investigated by city police, please see our Thursday, February 20, issue.
