They weren’t armed with a gun and they didn’t wait until the cover of darkness, but several black males did commit the city’s fourth armed robbery within a six-day span late Thursday afternoon.
Due to the quick response times of patrol officers with the Cordele Police Department and a thorough investigation by detectives, six arrests have been in connection with the robberies.
Christopher Bernard Felder, 18, Vienna; Alfred Ford Jr., 20, Cordele; Gregory Ross, 18, Cordele; Montrell James Clayton, 17, Vienna and Raheem Akim Montford, 18, Cordele and Shaquille Quintavious Jeffery, 18, Cordele have been arrested and charged with armed robbery. Montford and Jeffery also face an additional charge of probation violation.
The most recent of the burglaries was committed Thursday afternoon. Cordele Police Department records show officers were dispatched to Ken’s Pecans at 1002 Seventh St. S. around 4:30 p.m. moments after two males one of whom brandished a spear-like knife entered the establishment demanding money. The subjects picked up the cash register and fled the scene. One of them was described as about 5-foot-11 and the other about 5-2. Both were estimated to be in their late teens or early 20’s.
During the commission of the crime, one of the robbers reportedly kept a white bucket in front of his face to help guard his identity.
The string of robberies began last Friday night when three black males wearing disguises entered U.S. Discount at the corner of Seventh Street and 24th Avenue and demanded money.
While the armed robber stood guard at the door, another went over the counter and a third grabbed the cash register which he dropped because it was still attached to an outlet.
After firing an errant shot in an area where other employees were standing, the robber fled the store with an undetermined amount of money. Authorities are hoping items they dropped during their flight might lead to their identity.
The second robbery occurred just before midnight Saturday at G&N Food Mart at 16th Avenue and 11th Street where three men — one of whom brandished a pistol — entered with their faces covered and demanded money. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash they fled the scene.
This past Monday night, robbers struck at Your Supermarket also located on 16th Ave. W. where as manay as five persons were believed to be involved in that hold-up where an employee was shot in the shoulder.
Two of the suspects entered the premises, a third stood guard at the door and two others served as outside lookouts. All of them fled emptyhanded when an employee inside advanced toward them with a machete.
Anyone having information about any of the crimes is asked to contact police immediately.
