Deacon Elie "Eli" McKenzie, Sr.
BYROMVILLE -- Funeral services for Deacon Elie "Eli" McKenzie Sr., 82, will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 in the New Popular Springs Baptist Church in Byromvillle. Burial will be held in New Popular Springs Cemetery. The Rev. Curtis Raines will officiate.
Dea. McKenzie died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 in the Northlake Medical Center in Dekalb County.
He was the son of the late Ethel C. and Mary Harvey McKenzie. He was one of the founding members of the New Popular Springs Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board for 30 years. He was a mason (Franklin Lodge No. 210), World War II Army Veteran and a farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sallie M. McKenzie of Byromville; 9 children, Evon (Wendell) Tooks and Therman McKenzie Sr. of Stone Mountain, Eli (Vera) McKenzie, Roy (Cynthia) McKenzie and Viola McKenzie, all of Decatur, Queenie (Douglas) Aydelott and Andrew McKenzie of Utah, Nina Mapp of Macon and Ronald (Teresa) McKenzie of Lithonia; four brothers, Alford C. (Clemmie) McKenzie of Swainsboro, Oscar (Mazel) McKenzie of Utica, NY, Willie B. (Claudia) McKenzie and Earl McKenzie, both of New Jersey; two sisters, Elnora Gay of Byromville and Bertha McKenzie of New Jersey; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

HOPE MILLS, NC -- Funeral services for retired SSgt. Brenda Jean Tolbert-Jones, formerly of Cordele, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2005 with full military honors in the sanctuary of the Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Lorenda Ray will officiate.
Mrs. Tolbert-Jones died Monday, October 31, 2005.

William Hardy "Bill" Owens
GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Funeral services for William Hardy "Bill" Owens, 87, formerly of Rochelle, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel of Frazier and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Talmadge Wilcox and Rev. Clark Standard will officiate. Interment will be in the Morningside Cemetery with military rites.
Mr. Owens died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. Owens was born on March 14, 1918 in Wilcox County and has lived in Greenwood, South Carolina since 1972. He was the son of the late James Hardy Owens and Nannie Paramore Owens. He was retired from the United State Government with the Department of Affairs. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle.
Survivors include his sons, Patrick William Owens of Las Vegas, NV and Allen Anthony Wayne Owens of Greenwood, S.C.; daughters, Lynda Bethune of Grovetown, Robin Annette Owens of Augusta, Stephanie Miles of Greenwood, SC and Jocelyn Sheyyab of Abbeville, S.C.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2005 in the funeral Home.

Ms. White died Thursday, November 3, 2005 at the Crisp Regional Health and Rehabiliation Center in Cordele.

ASHBURN -- Funeral services for Dorris A. Brown, 97, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 at Perry Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sycamore.
Mrs. Brown died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at the Ashburn Health Care following an extended illness.

Mrs. Taylor died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, in a Kennesaw nursing home.

Kim Fraser sang "Stand Alone" and Amanda Dukes sang "O Come Angel Band." The service concluded with Mrs. Cromer's son, Elton Cromer, singing "Going Home".

Sheriff Donnie R. Haralson, 58, died Tuesday night, Mar. 4, 2014 at his residence following a lengthy battle against cancer. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, Mar. 7, 2014 at the Cordele First Baptist Church where Donnie was a member and served as a Deacon.
James Buford Jones
CORDELE - Rev. Stan Bowen officiated the graveside service for James Buford Jones of Cordele at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Warwick Methodist Cemetery. The service was opened with Norma McKinney and Brenda Posey singing “I’ll Fly Away.” Those in attendance sang “Victory In Jesus” at the close. The United States flag was presented to Mrs. Oreeta Jones. Pallbearers were Eric Ellsworth, Ronnie Kennedy, Steve Akin, Kyle Pless, Andrew Pless and Kirk Jones.
Mr. Jones, 90, passed away Thursday at Crisp Regional Hospital. He was born in Worth County and was the son of the late Emmett Jerome Jones and Euna Gleaton Jones. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Jones was a farmer and a member of Morningside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Oreeta Moore Jones of Cordele; two children, a son, James B. Jones, Jr. and his fianceé, Marie Brown of North Carolina and a daughter, Sherlene Jones of Grovetown; a brother, William K. "Billy" Jones of Warwick; two sisters, Frances Whitfield of Warwick and Barbara Ann Pate of Ashburn; four grandchildren, Jill Teague and her husband, Scott, Benji Jones, Jeremy Jones and his fianceé, Keri Hutcheson and Christina Ellsworth and her husband, Eric; and five great-grandchildren, Parker Teague, B.J. Teague, Hailey Bistricky, Brianna Ellsworth and Zachary Ellsworth. He was preceded in death by siblings, Emmett Jones, Jr., Jacqueline Hancock, Florence Wyles and Carolyn Kennedy. Viola T. Wilson
Viola Talley Wilson, over 105-years-old, eased peacefully into her next chapter on February 26, 2014. Vi was born September 8, 1908 in Wilcox County, Georgia to I. Eulas and Susie Pope Talley. She was the granddaughter of Wiley P. and Frances Jane Brady Pope and Thomas W. and Alice Stanford Talley. She was the oldest and last surviving of five siblings, Jesse, Homer and Lowell Talley and Juanita Talley Brogdon.
Her first husband was J.C. Holt of Rochelle, Georgia. They had four children, Nellie Sue, Clarence Howard, Shirley Joan, and Edward.
Her second husband was George P. Wilson of Columbia, South Carolina.
She was of the Baptist faith and a longstanding member of The Eastern Star. Vi had a passion for cooking, quilting, and gardening. She had a full, adventurous life. During WWII, she worked as a welder at the shipyards in Brunswick. She also owned a hair salon in the late 1940’s. She loved driving, learning to drive at age ten in the hills of Alabama, where she was raised in a mining town. She was able to stay in her car until age 98. She was greatly admired and loved by many. Her tenacity and vitality were an inspiration to her family and friends.
Vi is survived by her daughter, Shirley Wolfe, daughters-in-law, Goldie and Sally Holt, her twelve grandchildren and their ever-expanding families, her special niece, Diane Womack, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She considered herself very blessed to be part of a close, loving, large family. She treasured the wisdom and traditions of her grandmother, Fannie, and her many beloved aunts.
Vi was cremated and will be buried at Pope City Cemetery among her loved ones. A graveside service will be held March 8, at 11 a.m. Her great nephew, Rev. Darren Talley, will officiate. Family and friends will gather after the service.
MARTINEZ - Graveside Services for Mr. Elijah Glen Arnold, 90, who entered into rest February 27, 2014, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock in Pineview Memorial Park with Full Military Honors.
Mr. Arnold was a native of Cordele and a former resident of North Augusta for over 60 years, having recently made Martinez his home. He was the son of the late Elmer Eugene Arnold and Pauline Dorough Arnold. He was U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and Korea.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Elsie Waters Arnold; two sons, Michael G. Arnold, North Augusta, SC, and Randall Steven Arnold, Belvedere, SC; a daughter, Teresa Rodgers, Belvedere, SC; a step-son, William Andy Pate, Harlem, GA; two step-daughters, Susan Pomposini, Danville, VA and Shannan Wilson, Belvedere, SC; a sister, Dorothy Coffee, Cordele, GA; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
