J.D. ‘Ted’ Dorough

CORDELE — Funeral services will be held for J.D. “Ted” Dorough, 94, at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.

Mr. Dorough died Thursday, March 23, 2006.

A native of Crisp County, Mr. Dorough was born Nov. 17, 1911, to the late James William Dorough and the late Sarah Elizabeth Arnett Dorough. He was a charter member of Peavy Memorial United Methodist Church and a World War II veteran. He retired after 27 years as a line foreman with the Crisp County Power Company.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Nell C. Dorough of Cordele; daughters: Reba Mitchell and her husband, Julius of Byron, and Janet Stanton of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Beth Sumners of Tallahassee, Chris Mitchell of Warner Robins, and Will Stanton of Tallahassee; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to be made to Peavy Memorial United Methodist Church or the Dorough Cemetery at Midway.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Jan Adams Yawn

CORDELE — Commital services were held for Jan Adams Yawn at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Sunnyside Cemetery. Funeral services followed at 11 a.m. in Peavy Memorial United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ray Sullivan and Norman Dunlap officiated both services.

Warren Rogers, pianist, provided soft music for the service. He also accompanied himself as he sang “Sweet, Sweet Spirit” and “Sweet By and By.”

CORDELE — Funeral services for Mildred Louise Scott were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, in Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church in Crisp County. Elder Fred Gordon conducted the service and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
