Lula Mae Law

DOOLING — Funeral services for Lula Mae Law, 71, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 in the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Dooling. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, and the Rev. Aaron Bandy will officiate for the services.

Mrs. Law died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

She was the daughter of the late Ed and Beulah Brown of Dooling, and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served as past president of the Usher Board. She was the widow of the late Edward Law.

Survivors include four sons, the Rev. Tommie (Barbara) Law of Ellaville, the Rev. Joe (Pastor Deborah) Law and Octavious Law of Dooling, and Mack Law of Detroit, Mich.; two daughters, Bertha Morris and Jennice Law of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Eddie Mae McGhee of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Willie Brown of Dooling, and Willie B. (Ester) Curgil of Connecticut; two sisters-in-law; 32 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m., and the family may be contacted at 1162 Church St., Dooling.

Betty Pope Mayo Chavers

ALBANY — Graveside funeral services for Betty Pope Mayo Chavers, 76, formerly of Montezuma, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 at Pinecrest Cemetery in Vidalia with Elder Joe Nettles officiating.

Mrs. Chavers died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006.

A native of Vidalia, she was the daughter of the late Herschel and Mamie Brantley Pope. He had resided in Montezuma for more than 40 years, but had recently moved to Albany. Mrs. Chavers was a retired bookkeeper for the West Central Georgia Community Action Council in Montezuma. She was a member of Plains Baptist Church, she was active in the Silver Stars and was an avid gardener.

Survivors include her husband, A. Clyde Chavers of Plains; two daughters, Charlane Mathews and her husband, Mike, and Jackie Theidel and her husband, Rick, all of Albany; a son, David C. Mayo and his wife, Dawn, of Cordele; four grandchildren, Tracy Mathews Ethridge and her husband, Allen, of Albany, Clarke Mayo and Catherine Mayo both of Cordele, and Chloe A. Theidel of Albany; two sisters, Sarah Pope Maddox of Lyons, and Helen Pope Kennington of Macon.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jeff Walls

CORDELE — Funeral services for Jeff Walls, 42, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 29 in Penia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Penia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Walls died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, in Crisp Regional Hospital.

A native of Crisp County, he was the son of the late Charlie Walls. He was employed as a salesman at Home Depot and was the owner of Walls Upholstery.

Survivors include his mother, Leola G. Walls of Cordele; a son and daughter, Jeffery Walls and Shelby Walls of Cobb, and their mother, Lynn Walls of Cobb; a sister, Nedra Scarborough of Cordele; brothers, Don Walls of Tazewell, Chris Walls of Orlando, Fla., Randy Walls of Albany, and Ricky Walls of Leesburg; and a special friend, Vicky Cape of Cordele.

Etta A. Crenshaw

CORDELE — Funeral services for Etta A. Crenshaw, 62, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home of Cordele. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Crenshaw died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

She was a native of Coleman, Fla., and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Amerson of Cordele, Matthew (Ashley) Shadix and Daniel Shadix both of Eastman; daughters, Connie (Robert) Anderson and Wanda (Johnny) Lucas, both of Cordele, Patricia (Billy) Poss of Pitts, and Barbara (John) Anderson of Aiken, S.C.; seven brothers, Charles Amerson and Leonard Amerson of Jacksonville, Fla., Arthur Amerson of Pitts, Billy Ray Amerson of Kentucky, Jimmy Lee Amerson of Fitzgerald, Greg Amerson of Rochelle, and David Amerson of Cordele; five sisters, Claudie Price and Joyce Bell of Jacksonville, Fla., Sarah Amerson of Jasper, Fla., Mary Frances Grimes of Tifton, and Gertrude Grimsley of Cordele; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

VIENNA — Funeral services for Ruthie Dell Bryant will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 in the chapel of J.W. Williams Funeral Home of Cordele with the Rev. J. C. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery.

Mrs. Bryant died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006.

Survivors include a daughter, Willie Ruth Bryant-Martin of Atlanta; a son, Obie Bryant of Vienna; sisters, Carrie Gibson and Gloria Fitzgerald of Orlando, Fla.; daughters-in-law, Mamie Bryant and Elnora Bryant; an uncle, John “Bud” Davis of Vienna; and cousins, Sisoda Lee, Ouida Conn and Lewistine Conn of Canton, Ohio.

Tommie Lee Prather Hudgon

CORDELE — Funeral services for Tommie Lee Prather Hudgon will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 from the sanctuary of Gethsemane Baptist Church with the Rev. L. D. Cobb Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Hudgon died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006.

She was the wife of the late Deacon J.D. Hudgon and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where she served on the Deaconess Board, was the church reporter and was a member of the Senior Choir.

Survivors include a step-son, Roosevelt (Elsie) Hudgon of Augusta; a sister, Annie Maude Kaigler of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Jimmy Simmons of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Annie Pearl Stevenson of Ocala, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends, to include the Rev. L.D. Cobb Sr., and the Gethsemane Baptist Church family.

CORDELE — Funeral services for Charletta Demetrica Smith will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31 in the sanctuary of the Greater Gum Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Haugabrook officiating. Burial will follow in the Gum Creek Church Cemetery.

Miss Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006.
