Clarifying our policy

With the political season about to get into full swing, I would like to clarify the Cordele Dispatch’s policy concerning political stories, letters, and advertising.
Already, two candidates have announced their plans to seek a particular office, and we have run general stories for them. We will do the same thing for any other candidates who wish to announce their candidacy and will provide us with a short story and photo.
Prior to the July primaries, we will run an advertising supplement in which candidates will be invited to share their views on a variety of issues.
At any point during the campaign, we will be happy to accept advertising from candidates and/or their supporters. All political advertising must be paid in advance.
We have adopted a policy not to print any letters to the editor which endorse local area or statewide candidates. That includes state and U. S. senators and representatives. We will, however, accept letters from local voters concerning Presidential candidates.
We hope readers will understand that we cannot run their endorsements free of charge. As I said earlier, we will be happy to run any advertising for any candidate.
