CORDELE — Eight members of Crisp County High’s 2008 grid squad have been recognized on the All-Region 1-AAA football team selected by the head coaches of league members.
First-team selections are senior wide receiver Bo Carter, junior linebacker Tommy Sanders and senior defensive back James Troutman. Both Carter and Troutman were hailed as such for a third year. Carter was also a recent honorable mention pick on the Macon Telegraph’s All-Middle Georgia squad.
Tabbed for the second team from the Cougars, who finished with a 6-5 won-loss record and a No. 4 state playoff seed, are senior center Derek Pope and senior defensive end Quintavius Ruff.
Honorable mention choices from Crisp are junior running back Joshua Waters, senior placekicker Justin Richardson and senior defensive end Demetrius Shorter.
“For us to have this many kids selected to the team is indeed an honor as with Peach County and Perry being added to our region this past year that made it more difficult for players to be recognized,” Cougar head coach Tommy Walburn said in revealing the names of the honorees from his team.
All of the top individual laurels on this year’s all-region squad understandably went to Cairo High, which after finishing as the 2007 state runner-up won the 2008 crown while posting a 14-0 record.
Quarterback Angelo Pease was the overall player of the year, running back Reginald Bryant was the offensive player of the year, lineman Martavious Williams was the defensive player of the year and Syrupmakers head mentor Tom Fallaw was the coach of the year.
