CORDELE — Near-identical points totals were good enough Monday night to get both Crisp Academy basketball teams into the win column at the expense of visiting Windsor Academy.
After coach Cliff Ranew’s Lady Wildcats had run their record to 4-1 with a 50-35 victory over the Lady Knights, coach Monte Horne’s Wildcats evened their report card at 1-1 with a 51-31 triumph over the Knights. Both Crisp teams host Sherwood Christian tonight.
Lady ’Cats 50, Lady Knights 35
Winning the scoring battle in three of the four quarters of play, the Lady Wildcats gradually pulled away from their foe with a performance Ranew labeled “an improvement over last week in the tournament at Locust Grove.
“Other than getting into early foul trouble, I thought we did a pretty good job overall. We did make a lot of turnovers (20), but we also did a good job of slowing things down the last four minutes. When they were forced to come out and pick us up, we got the ball inside for a couple of key baskets.
“All in all, we played well against a good Windsor team that’s big and physical. They were a good test for us and I was glad to see us pass it.”
Laura Leigh Carter once more led Crisp in scoring with 16 points. Katie Morse paced Windsor with 13.
