Cordele — Crisp County High's results in its Wednesday Sweet 16 battle with Perry High ranged from one extreme to the other.
After winning the opener of a twin bill that launched a best-of-three series by the eight-run mercy rule in effect after the fifth inning of play, the Lady Cougars suffered a heart-breaking one-run loss in the nightcap.
With their 8-0 victory in Game 1 and 2-1 loss in Game 2, Crisp was left needing a win in today's 6 p.m. Game 3 if it is to make its first-ever trip to next week's Elite Eight round in Columbus.
The Region 1-AAAA champion Lady Cougars will enter the rubber game of its series vs. Perry with a record of 23-11. Region 2-AAAA's third-seeded Lady Panthers will check in with a 16-18 report card.
