Cougar wrestlers make school history

Cairo — Crisp County High’s 2013-14 wrestling team etched its name in school history books this past weekend when it won the Region 1-AAAA crown for the first time ever.

Leading the way with first-place finishes in their respective weight classes were five individual champs — junior Corey Nipper, 106; senior Jaleel Williams, 113; sophomore Alberto Gomez, 132; junior Gregory Harvey, 182, and junior Kaaun Daniel, 220.

Crisp will be represented in the state sectionals set for this Friday and Saturday at Fayetteville County High in all 14 weight classes. The top eight in each division will move on to the state finals to be held Feb. 13-15 in Gwinnett County.
