Dooly County has only area teams unsure about their next tourney foes

Cordele — While Crisp County High joined Crisp and Fullington academies in learning Thursday who their next basketball tournament opponents will be, Dooly County High won't know until later today who it will be going up against on the hardwood in their next starters.

Crisp's Lady Cougars (16-11), the No. 3 seed from Region 1-AAAA, are to play this evening at 6 in Augusta against Region 3-AAAA runner-up Cross Keys (22-3). The 15-12 Cougars, meanwhile, will play Saturday at 6 in Hinesville against Liberty County (20-7).

Crisp Academy's Lady Wildcats (24-2) and Wildcats (14-7) will be at home in tonight's 7 (girls) and 8:30 Region 3-A GISA title games against Georgia Christian's Generals and Lady Generals.

Fullington's Lady Trojans (14-12) also will be playing at Crisp Academy in the girls' 4 p.m. consolation contest.

As for Dooly's Region 4-A champion Bobcats (23-3) and Lady Bobcats (19-6), as of 1 p.m. they were still awaiting to see who they'll get to host in next week's first round of the GHSA Class A tournament.

The boys held a final No. 8 power ranking and three other members of their region — Hawkinsville, Marion and Greenville — also were listed in the top 16 which qualifies them for state. The girls were at the No. 10 spot ironically behind fellow region members Greenville (4) and Marion (7).

With its boys ranked 20th and its girls 41st, Wilcox failed to qualify for postseason play.  Only three teams from their region (2-A) will be in the field. They are the Turner County girls (3) and boys (6) and the Clinch County girls (14).
