Cougar baseballers get 2014 season off to flying start

Leesburg —  If early season results are a good omen, Crisp County High’s Cougars are in for another banner baseball season.

Making their 2014 debut in Lee County’s “Greatest Show on Dirt,” coach Bill Pate’s Class AAAA squad blanked tournament host Class AAAAA Lee County 2-0 in their first start and beat Class AAAAAA Colquitt 7-1 in their second outing.

The team will now be idle until this coming weekend when they make a trip to Troup County to defend the LaGrange Toyota Invitational title they claimed a year ago.

Their schedule includes Friday games at 3 p.m. vs. Bartram Trail of Jacksonville and at 8 p.m. against South Gwinnett of Atlanta. On Saturday at 12:30, they take on West Orange High of Orlando. Later in the day, they will play for either first, third, fifth or seventh place.
