Cougars nip Liberty County; face Rutland High next

Hinesville — One “first” by  Crisp County High’s boys led to three others and a 56-53 victory in Saturday’s opening round of the Class AAAA state basketball tournament.

By sinking all 11 of their free throw attempts for the “first” time of the season, the Cougars were in position to get their win over Liberty County’s Panthers when Davion Harvey hit his “first” game-winning basket of the year.

Harvey’s heroics that came in the “first” athletics meeting between the schools also gave the Cougars their “first” state tournament road win during Terry Smith’s four-year tenure as their head coach.

Their next start will come Tuesday at 6 at Region 2-AAAA Rutland High of Macon, a team that defeated them 65-55 in a Middle Georgia Classic holiday tournament pairing.
