Six area teams face state tournament foes this week

Cordele — The six area teams still in the running for state titles will all be in action anywhere from 1-3 times this week with their number of actual appearances depending upon how they fare each time they hit the floor.

Dooly County’s Region 4-A champion Lady Bobcats (19-7) launch the competition at home today at 6 against Emanuel County Institute (15-7).

The winner plays again on Wednesday and possibly again on Friday.

The Region 4-A titlist Bobcats (23-3) host Marion County's Eagles on Tuesday instead of Wheeler County's Bulldogs as the school was first told.. The victor plays again on Thursday and possibly on Friday.

Crisp County High’s 16-12 Cougars will play Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Macon against Rutland High’s Hurricanes, a team they previously lost to 65-55 during the Middle Georgia Classic held during the Christmas holidays. The winner plays again on Thursday vs. the Worth-Jonesboro winner and possibly again on Saturday.

Crisp Academy’s four-time Region 3-A GISA titlist and three-time defending GISA Class A state champion Lady Wildcats (27-2) start state play on Wednesday at 8:30 at Georgia Southwestern State vs. Heirway Christian. The winner returns to the court for a 5:30 Friday scrap.

Coming off their first region title in five years, the 15-7 Wildcats make their state debut on Thursday at 5:30 also at GSW where they initial foe will be Solid Rock. The survivor plays again on Saturday at 3:30.

Fullington Academy’s 15-12 Lady Trojans, the No. 3 seed from Region 3-A GISA, also will be in action on Wednesday when they play at 4 p.m. Region 4-A runner-up Solid Rock. The winner plays again Friday at 7.

TBD — Dooly girls play again if they beat ECI

Thursday

8:30 p.m. — Crisp Academy boys vs. Solid Rock at GSW

TBD — Crisp County and Dooly County boys play again if they win on Friday

5:30 p.m. — Crisp Academy girls play at GSW if they win Wednesday

TBD — Crisp and Fuilington girls play again if they win Wednesday

TBD — Dooly girls play again if they win their first Monday and Wednesday games

Saturday

3:30 p.m. — Crisp Academy boys play if they win on Thursday

TBD — Crisp and Dooly boys play at sites and times to be determined if they have won their first two games

  • Colquitt 4-13 Carter vs. Colquitt.tif Cougars pushed to limit to get past Packers

    Crisp County High’s Cougars got one of their closest calls yet from a fellow Peach State team Wednesday when they eked out a 6-4 victory over Colquitt County’s Packers.
    The triumph extended the winning string of coach Bill Pate’s squad to 12 games and bettered its overall record to 16-2 heading into a Tuesday Region 1-AAAA road game at Westover. It also has a Wednesday non-region home duel on tap with Hardaway of Columbus.
