Vienna — The trip to state prove to be short-lived for Dooly County High's Lady Bobcats Monday when Emanuel County Institute's Lady Bulldogs battled back from an early 9-point deficit to eventually post a 57-53 victory.
That outcome ultimately decided by the free throw statistics gave coach Cedric Blackshear's Region 4-A champion girls a final 19-7 record.
Dooly's boys, meanwhile, hope to begin a much longer stay in postseason play when they play host Tuesday at 6 p.m. to Marion County's Eagles as the result of a late switch in the GHSA Class A power rankings.
The 23-3 Bobcats of coach Towandi King initially were told that as the Region 4-A champions they would be facing Wheeler County in the first round. In drawing Marion instead, they get a fellow region foe they swpt during the regular season by scores of 59-56 and 85-66.
