Adams tops list of the best in Region 4-A

Vienna — Led by repeat Defensive Player of the Year Montravius Adams and co-Coach of the Year Jimmy Hughes, Dooly County High has claimed 18 spots on the All-Region 4-A football team

The highest-rated uncommitted recruit still in the playoffs, Adams not only helped the Bobcats finish in a three-way tie for first place in the region but has played a key role in the team reaching this weekend’s Class A state title game.

Heading into the championship contest to be played Saturday at the Georgia Dome, Adams has been credited with 95 tackles (34 of them for losses), 32 assists, 43 hurries, six fumbles caused and four recoveries.

Hughes was recognized for guiding Dooly to an 8-2  record that resulted in a No. 2 seed when the Bobcats wound up in a first place deadlock with Brookstone and defending champion Marion counties.

The rule used to break that deadlock resulted in Dooly earning the runner-up slot before going on to defeat Turner, Seminole and Lincoln counties in the playoffs thus far and earning a shot two days from now at second-ranked ECI for the Class A crown.

Brookstone’s Madison McCluskey earned the distinction of Region 4-A Overall Player of the Year while his mentor, Brad Dehem, shared Coach of the Year laurels with Hughes. Schley County’s Trey Minter received recognition as the Offensive Player of the Year.

Dooly’s first-team offensive unit selections are running back Chanin Hamilton who to date has rushed 185 times for 1,358 yards and 12 touchdowns, wide receiver Courtney Clark, who has 41 receptions for 813 yards and 12 touchdowns, and lineman Larry Glover.

Joining Adams as first-team defensive picks are linemen Jalen Daniels (62 tackles, 25 assists) and DeQuan Daniels (55 tackles, 28 assists), linebacker Mark Lloyd (76 tackles, 33 assists) and defensive backs Tay Daniels (79 tackles, 38 assists) and Kereon Merrell.

Lineman Terrell Deriso was a second-team choice on offense as was defensive lineman Jasean Wiley, linebacker Jaleel Brown (65 tackles, 67 assists), defensive back Kris Lundy (37 tackles, 4 assists, 3 interceptions and kicker Diego Cruz who made 37 of 42 PAT tries and two of four field goal attempts.

Honorable mention was accorded center Sedarious Hicks, wide receiver  Tyrone Anderson, running back Zachary Hooks and defensive backs Mark Clark and Jerome Pressley.
