CORDELE — During Tuesday’s meeting of the city commission, Administrator Edward Beach presented the board with a check accepted on behalf of the city for a Community Development Block Grant. Beach and members of the Urban Development Staff were present at the recent CDBG training and awards presentation where they received the $500,000 check on behalf of the city.
Beach also presented commissioners with several action items for their approval.
With the recent change in banking regulations, a resolution is required to exhibit all names associated with the signatory duties on all banking documents. Beach submitted a list of names to the board to be approved as signatures; Chairman Zack H. Wade, City Administrator Edward Beach, Interim Finance Director Steve Fulford, and Assistant Finance Director Cathy Migrant. Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the list.
Board members also approved a request submitted by Beach to advertise the 2015 Tax Digest and History of Levy. Beach informed commissioners the 2015 tax numbers were down 4.75% over FY2014. This equals a reduction of tax revenues of $111,667. These numbers were calculated with the current millage rate of 10.995 mills which it has been for the last nine years. With the board’s approval, Beach said it will be advertised to the public for review and then they will officially set the millage rate soon.
An application for a Beer Only – Consumed on Premises license for Cascade, located at 2010 Central Avenue Suites G and H. The applicant’s name is Naquiar An-Keisha Coley. Interim Chief Lewis Green approved the application on September 4. Commissioners voted 3 to 1 to approve the application. Jeanee Bartee was the only opposition to the motion.
Commissioners also approved two requests for road closures for coming events. The first request was submitted by the Crisp County High School Student Council for the closure of 7th Street through downtown from 15th Avenue to 6th Avenue for a parade to show support for students, the school and the football team. The date of the event is October 1, 2015 at 5:30 p.m.
Cordele Main Street Director has requested the closure of 9th Avenue form 7th to 6th Streets to host the annual Downtown Spooktacular event. This event will be held on Thursday, October 29 from 6-8 p.m.
