Crisp Playoffs

Albany–The Crisp County Lady Cougars (5-5) opened up the Region Tournament against Cook County (8-2) on Tuesday night. The double-elimination tournament consisted of the top 8 teams in Region 1-AAAA. The Lady Cougars concluded their region schedule last week with a loss to Cook County losing 0-7 in Adel.
Crisp County came out in the 1st inning with Alexis Meadows leading off with a single up the middle. Hunter Meadows followed with a sac bunt that resulted in an errant throw plating both Meadows.
Cook County answered in the bottom of the 1st scoring 2 runs off 2 doubles, a BB’s, and one error.
In the bottom of the 2nd Cook County scored twice off an error, a single, and a BB’s. The game remained 2-4 until the top of the 4th with Crisp tying the game. Jordan Dickerson led off the inning with a single to right and a stolen base. She was moved to third with a fielder’s choice by Dallas Outlaw. Nikki Baker followed reaching 1st on an error. Jesse Dickerson then singled driving in 2 runners.
The 5th inning hits by Hunter Meadows, Ashley Phillips, and Jordan Dickerson resulted in the Lady Cougars taking 5-4 lead.
Crisp held the lead until the bottom of the 7th when Cook tied it up with a solo homerun. The game remained tied until the 9th inning when Cook hit a 2 run walk-off homerun to win the game 7-5. (LP- Ashley Phillips, WP- L . Walker)
Game 2 of the tournament Crisp County faced the Westover Lady Patriots winning a run ruled contest in 4 innings 14-1. The Lady Cougars’ winning pitcher, Ashley Phillips, faced 15 batters, striking out 7, allowing one lone walk.
Offensively Crisp was led by Torie Holmes going 3 for 3 with 2 singles and a homerun. Nikki Baker and Sydney Peavy were both 2 for 3. OF the remaining six starters five had a hit apiece.
Crisp faces off with Bainbridge (6-4) Wednesday at 5:30 in Albany. The winner finds a place in the GHSA State Tournament.
Game 3 of the Region 1-AAAA Tournament Crisp County faced off with Bainbridge in an elimination game. In the top of the first inning the Lady Cougars leadoff hitter, Alexis Meadows was hit by pitch. Hunter Meadows followed with a bunt for a hit with Alexis Meadows advancing from 1st to third on the play. Senior Torie Holmes continued to be clutch driving in 2 runs with the next at bat. The first half inning was capped off with Jordan and Jesse Dickerson reaching base on errors, Nikki Baker singling to left, and 2 more runs being scored. In the bottom of the frame Bainbridge had 2 hits. Pitcher Ashley Phillips had a strikeout and a run allowed. The third out was made on a collision play at the plate. The play resulted in catcher Torie Holmes securing the ball, making the tag, and the Bainbridge runner being ejected from the game.
After being held scoreless  in the top of the 2nd inning Crisp saw a 4-1 lead disappear after Bainbridge produced 5 singles and a grand slam in the bottom of the inning.
The score remained locked at 4-8 until the 5th inning. Hits by Dallas Outlaw, Nikki Baker, and Sydney Peavy helped bring Crisp back into the game resulting in 3 runs and a 7-8 score after the top of the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th Bainbridge answered back with 3 runs on four hits and a base on balls.
The 7-11 score going into the 6th would be all Bainbridge would need to secure the win and a place in the GHSA State Tournament. The Lady Cougars finish the 2015 season one game short of reaching
their team goal of a State Playoff berth.
