Drugs, handgun seized during traffic stop

CORDELE — Three people traveling through the county on Monday, were arrested on multiple drug charges following a traffic stop on I-75 near Hwy 257.
Deputy Kris Herrick stopped a vehicle driven by 27-year old Laura West of Atlanta for traveling 91 mph in a 70 mph zone. Herrick interviewed West and smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle during the roadside investigation. Herrick then proceeded to confront West’s two passengers, Michael Triplett and Keith Riley. Riley fled across both lanes of traffic, entering a wooded area and hid inside a vacant home off of Hwy 257. Deputies quickly located Riley inside the dwelling and he was taken into custody.
Triplett, age 34, was arrested after he was found to be in possession of crack cocaine.
Upon searching the vehicle, Herrick discovered multiple baggies tied in knots containing pills and suspected methamphetamine. Items seized during the stop included; Eight and a half ounces of marijuana, six grams of methamphetamine, one and half ounces of crack cocaine, 24 various  oxycodone, hydromorphone, clonazepam pills. Also confiscated was a .22 revolver.
All three were transported to the Crisp County Law Enforcement Center. Laura West is charged with speeding and possession of marijuana. Michael Triplett and Keith Riley are charged with multiple felony drug offenses and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Riley is also charged with criminal trespass for entering the abandoned house. Sheriff Hancock applauds Deputy Kris Herrick and his thorough investigation.
