Frank LaDon Thompson

CHELSEA, AL — Frank LaDon Thompson, 46, passed away October 14, 2015, surrounded by his family at UAB in Birmingham, Al.  He fought a long and valiant battle, bravely undergoing many setbacks as he awaited and ultimately underwent a heart and kidney transplant.
Frank was born August 19, 1969 in Donalsonville, GA.  He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1987 and from Jacksonville State University in 1995, in Jacksonville, AL.  Frank began his service to our country when he joined the Army Reserve in 1987.  He served as a Health Care Specialist until he separated from the Alabama National Guard as a non-commissioned officer in 1999.  Frank was a registered nurse, working in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit and the Critical Care Nursery at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL, where he met the love of his life, Julie Adams Thompson.
In addition to his wife, Julie, Frank is survived by his daughters, Alexandria Ivy Thompson,  Brooke Anne Thompson, both of Pell City, AL and Addison Kathryn Adams of Chelsea, AL.  He is also survived by his parents Irma and Lefrancois (Frenchy) Rowell of Colquitt, GA; two sisters, Donna Thompson Steineke (Curt) of Hawaii and LaTreasha Thompson Schmidt (Brian) of Singapore; and his devoted family-in-law Russell & Kathy Adams of Cordele, GA, Christy Adams Marshall (Wesley) of Leesburg, GA, and Allison Adams McQuade (Zac) of Australia.  He is preceded in death by his father Charles Franklin Thompson.
A service honoring and celebrating Frank’s life will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 3 PM.  Visitation will follow Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2 PM at First United Methodist Church, Cordele, GA with burial at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Cordele, GA at 3 PM.  Rainey Family Funeral Services will be handling local arrangements.  An online guestbook is available at www.raineyfuneral.com
