For the first time this year it was cold on Friday night. So with a chill in the air in Pinehurst the Fullington Trojans dispensed an aerial assault on Skipstone Academy for the second time this year. This time however, it was win or go home and Skipstone went home at the tail end of a 28-6 thumping.
It didn’t take the Trojans long to get points on the board. After getting a fumble recovery early in the game just after kick-off. The Trojans moved down the field and scored on a 11 yard little “wiggle pass “ from Will Mashburn to Dalton McLeod. The PAT by Trevor Thomas was good and the Trojans were up 7-0. The Trojans would get back on the board after another fumble recovery. The Trojans moved into Skipstone territory and then connected for a second time on a pass from Mashburn to McLeod this one covered 20 yards and Fullington after another PAT from Thomas had jumped to 14-0 lead. Skipstone drove down after a very nice run from their tailback and finally scored in the second quarter but missed the PAT and the score stood at 14-6 at halftime.
The Trojans got the ball first to start the second half and wasted little time in putting more points on the board. Fullington drove down and hit Ty Tyndal on a 20 yard strike for another touchdown and with the 3rd PAT good again Fullington was now up 21-6. After a series of defensive stands by Fullington. The Trojans would make another trip to the promise land this on the back of Quarterback Will Mashburn as he toted it in from 4 yards out and Thomas added another PAT and the final score was 28-6. At this time no information is available on who Fullingtons next opponent will be. On the night the Trojans were very productive through the air. Mashburn was 9- 17 for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. Logan Priest carried the ball 14 times for 50 yards to lead the ground attack. Andrew Mitcham had only one catch on the night but it went for 42 yards. Dalton McLeod had 3 catches for 40 yards and 2 td’s and Ty Tyndal had a pair of receptions for 34 yards and 1 Td. The defense was led by Logan Priest with 11 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries. Russ Taunton added 6 more tackles for victors on defense.” The boys played solid ball against a good team and we didn’t have that many big mistakes, it was a good team effort overall,” said Jason Hurst Head Coach at Fullington.
