CORDELE — Funeral services for Lee Raymond Bowen will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services.  The committal service will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Papa Bowen, 103, as he was affectionately known died Monday, December 7, 2015.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie B. Albritton Bowen.  Mr. Bowen was born in Carroll County and was the son of the late Leonides “Lonnie” Monroe and Martha Melissa Borders Bowen.  He was the second son and fourth child of nine children.
Mr. Bowen, along with his wife, was a farmer toiling the land to make his living.  He fed his family and shared with his siblings the vegetables that he grew.  He planted his last crop at age 63 and his last garden when he was 97 years old.
Mr. Bowen is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Eunice Gibbs of Cordele, Pearline Owens of Leesburg, Joyce and Ronald Presley of Arabi and Jeanette and Donnie West of Lake City, FL; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Raymond and Cathy Gibbs, Randy and Kay Owens, Tony Owens, Chris and DeeAnn Owens, Brenda Presley, Ronnie Presley, Angela and Chad Combest, Aimee and Brian Dicks and Apryll and Micah Tillotson; 16 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Bowen; siblings, Malva Fletcher Bowen, Ava Clyde Moon, Clara Jewel Bowen, Hazel Hairston, Opal Odom, James Herschel Bowen, Ruby Stripling and Glades “Tiny” Cook; and two sons-in-law, Doyle Gibbs and Lamar Owens.
